What the heck is FreeSwapper?
FreeSwapper is a global community that revolves around people like you. We make it easy for people to give away new and used items they no longer want or have use for, while making it easy for other people to find items they have been looking for. Best of all, this is all FREE!

We refer to each other affectionately as "FreeSwappers". We "FreeSwap" items with one another. FreeSwapping is a hoot!

Why FreeSwap?
Why NOT FreeSwap? That is the better question! Would you rather throw away something that someone else could use? Would you rather have your local landfill bulge at the seams with items that could be in peoples homes or businesses, serving a purpose? Do you think it's a hassle to give away something? It used to be, but now thanks to FreeSwapper, its a piece of cake!

Goodbye Hassles!
FreeSwapper takes all of the hassle out of giving items away to others. You simply list your item and specify a few details related to how quickly you need it gone, and how the person can pick it up. Then you hit save and you're done! FreeSwapper takes over and handles all of the details! You just indicate later that the item has been picked up. FreeSwapper protects your privacy!

FreeSwapper Partners with the Local Community
FreeSwapper partners with local organizations that help people in times of crisis. These crisis's range from domestic violence to all forms of abuse, as well as serious illness or loss of a loved one.

FreeSwapper calls these special FreeSwappers Community Access members.

We'll provide you with special access to the items on our network. These items can then be given to the people you work with who need them.

Help Preserve the Environment

FreeSwapper.org is dedicated to helping to protect the environment. We all discard far too many items that still have life left in them. By offering the items to someone else in your community you keep it out of the landfill and help to make the world a bit greener.

It's amazing how one person's junk is another person's treasure! It's a goofy saying, but it's true!

Giving Items on FreeSwapper

In the Give section you can list as many items as you want to give away. You will specify a few details, such as how quickly you want the items gone, the category of item, and pickup or delivery instructions. The Give section is visible once you login to FreeSwapper and complete your registration and address verification.

FreeSwapper will list your item so the global community can see it. If other FreeSwappers are interested in the item they click a link to request it. Most items will remain listed for a minimum of twenty four hours, but you can choose how much longer to list it if you're in no rush. Users will see your listed items if they are within a specified geographic distance from your location.

Once the listing period is over, FreeSwapper's servers go to work and determine who will receive the item. This is based on who requested it during the viewing period. This is a sophisticated, multi-step process. The whole purpose of automatic selection is to make it fair for all FreeSwapper members. Factors such as how much you have offered to others, if you've ever failed to pick up an item you requested, and your geographic proximity to the offer are all taken into consideration.

The best recipient is determined by the system and is sent an notification that they have been selected. Part of the notification they receive will contain instructions for picking up the item. These instructions could range from simply telling the person where the item is located and how to pick it up to listing a phone number for the person to call to make further arrangements. FreeSwapper can also automatically display driving directions from house to house if the person giving the item chose that option.

When the item is picked up, the person who offered the item will indicate it has been picked up back on the FreeSwapper website. If the item isn't picked up, the user reports that also. FreeSwapper will identify the next best recipient and the cycle continues.

Requesting an item on FreeSwapper is a piece of cake!

It starts with browsing through the list of items users are offering. These are found in the Receive section (visible after you complete registration). From that list, you can view details about the item being offered. If it sounds like what you're looking for, click on Request Item.

FreeSwapper will indicate that you have requested the item in the list so you know which items you have asked for and which ones you haven't.

Once the item has been listed for the prescribed amount of time, the FreeSwapper Servers will go to work and determine who will receive the item based on who requested it. Factors such as your Karma Points, geographic proximity to the item, etc. are taken into account.

If you're selected as the recipient, you'll receive a notice via email that includes pick up instructions. You may have to contact the person who offered the item for further instructions.

If you fail to pick up the item on time, your Karma will suffer! This will greatly reduce your ability to receive items in the future. But, as in life, we believe in restitution. You can re-build your Karma by completing positive actions such as offering items and referring users to FreeSwapper.

Is FreeSwapper really FREE?

Karma is Mother Nature's Rating System!

Karma is basically your reputation. It's an accumulation of everything you do on FreeSwapper. When you do something positive you receive points. When you do something negative you lose points.

On FreeSwapper you earn karma by giving. You receive even more points when people pick up items. If you want to request something from a user you need to have some karma. If you are selected to receive an item and you fail to pick it up, you lose karma.

Karma is what is commonly known as a reputation system. Big websites like eBay^tm use a reputation system to help users know how trustworthy other members are. Ultimatly your reputation governs the way people will interact with you.
